Question: Chocolate

Categories: Questions

Dark, white, or milk chocolate?

At this point in my life definitely dark chocolate. When I was a kid it was only milk chocolate. Although the Mini Eggs that come out at Easter have to be the milk chocolate kind…those things are soooo gooood! I can’t just eat one, I have to have at least 5 or 6.  And white chocolate is very good too…but it has to be good quality or it just doesn’t taste right.

Actually, I’ll take any chocolate, any time. :)

Question: What is your favourite part of the day?

Categories: Parenting, Questions

What is your favourite part of the day?

This question made me think. I have been focusing on living in the present and so enjoying every day. I do have a couple favourite moments during the day, though, that stand out more than others.

1. Chatting with my kids. Usually while we’re eating at the kitchen table. They tell me all sorts of wild stories and jokes. My kids are just incredible people and they keep me strong.

2. Crawling into my bed at night. I very much enjoy the feel of my sheets, my comfy mattress, all my blankets wrapped around me like a burrito. It’s comfort at it’s best!

Letters to my kids

Categories: Parenting

I started a journal for each of my kids when they were born. I write a letter to them every year on their birthday. I tell them about how they are, what they like to eat, to play with, what they excell at, and all other big and little things that they do.  I plan on giving each child the journal when it’s full of letters.

Then I’ll start another one. It’s an idea I got out of a Chicken Soup For the Mother’s Soul book that I read when I was pregnant for the first time. I haven’t really kept a baby book for each of my kids and I think this will give them more details about themselves and it’s more personal.

Epic Decision Aftermath

Categories: Decisions, Focus

So last week I wrote about a big decision that I made. The decision to leave my corporate job for good and to focus on my business 100%.  I wasn’t expecting my week to turn out the way it did.

I definitely felt relief and like it was the right decision. I know down to my cells that I am on the right path. I will be doing what I love all day and that doesn’t feel like work to me!

What I didn’t expect was to feel completely emotionally overwhelmed! I literally felt like I was having a meltdown.  I laughed. I cried. I was lazy. I was energetic. I didn’t know what I was all about. And being the proactive person that I am I worked with myself. I meditated and practiced all my knowledge and yet it didn’t seem to calm me down.

I discovered an important learning in this whole situation once I just allowed myself to have my meltdown. I had to process the depth and amount of emotion I was feeling before it would release.  And that was the key. Once I allowed myself to be with the emotion of the epic, monumental decision that I had made I felt it pass.  I didn’t hold on to it or try to hurry it anymore. I felt it and it left.

When we’re going through a process, whether it’s positive or negative, we need to allow the emotion to be. Just like positive emotions, negative emotions aren’t bad in and of themselves.  It’s only when we bottle up those emotions that we can create problems for ourselves.  I had tried to get rid of the emotions before they had run their course.  Once I had closure with the decision I had made I was able to meditate on it and release whatever else came up.

The giving of permission to yourself is one of the most important aspects of making changes. And also having a great support team by you. I am strong and I can handle a lot and I am also grateful for being able to ask for help.

I’m curious to witness how this process will continue to unfold for me. I know that my business will go exactly where I want it to now that I will have all the time I need for it.  The emotional and mental journey is also fascinating. Developing this successful and allowing mindset is fun and scary and exhilarating at the same time. I will keep you posted.

The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it,but that it is too low and we reach it.
